Repairing Consoles — Drift, Fans, HDMI and VR Headsets

Stick drift, loud fan, broken HDMI port: What you can repair yourself and when to go to the repair shop.

Consoles are robust, but not immortal. Typical problems have been the same for years — and almost all are repairable.

The Classics

- Stick Drift (Controller) — Replacing the Hall-Sensor stick: 20–50 €. - Loud fan — usually dust. Cleaning + new thermal paste: 40–80 €. - Broken HDMI port — Repair 80–150 €. - Disc drive won't read — Clean or replace the lens. - VR Headsets: Replace lenses, repair cable break points.

Tips

1. Dust your console regularly. 2. Do not place it in closed furniture. 3. Check your warranty before making any interventions.

Your Rights

Consoles and accessories will gradually enter the EU Ecodesign plan for consumer electronics starting in 2026.

A well-maintained controller lasts for three console generations.
