Week 2: Map your triggers

Ads, stress, boredom, comparison — most of the time we don't buy the product, we buy a mood. This week you find out which one.

TL;DR: Triggers aren''t the problem — unconscious triggers are. This week you write down every buying impulse for seven days with its trigger and feeling. The pattern will surprise you.

The three most common triggers - Stress & exhaustion: Shopping as a reward for a hard day. - Comparison: Reel, story, newsletter — someone has it, you want it too. - Boredom: Scroll → see → click, before your brain notices it''s just empty.

The exercise Open a note called "Buying impulses" on your phone. For every impulse (not just the ones you acted on) write down: - Time - What triggered you? (app, person, feeling) - What mood was in the background? - Did you buy?

At the end of the week, count your top three triggers.

What changes The moment you name the trigger, it loses power. "I want this bag" becomes "I want this bag because I''m frustrated after that call" — and that''s an entirely different decision.

FAQ Do I really have to write down every impulse? Try it. There are fewer than you think, and the data is gold.
